Terms and Definitions
Entrants are solely responsible and liable for the content of their Entries and any other information they transmit in relation to the Challenge.
This Challenge may be promoted through multiple channels including EDMs, Social Media, WRIQ website and third‐party websites.
To the extent permitted by law, each Entrant agrees to indemnify, defend and forever hold harmless WRIQ, its employees and contractors and WRIQ associated companies, against any and all losses, actions, claims, costs, expenses and damages (of any nature) which may be incurred by an Entrant in respect of the Entrant’s participation in the Challenge.
Any questions or complaints about the Challenge must be directed to the promoter (WRIQ).
1. General
1.1 The Promoter of the Challenge is WRIQ ABN 50 986 260 101.
1.2 By entering this Challenge, Applicants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions including any information provided through the application process.
2. Eligibility
2.1 Entry is open to the Applicants, excluding the Excluded Applicants.
2.2 This Challenge will be conducted during the Entry Period. Entries must be received by the Promoter during the Entry Period. Entries received after the Entry Period ends will not count towards the Challenge. The Promoter is not responsible for any late, lost or misdirected entries.
3. Entry
3.1 To enter this Challenge, Applicants must complete and submit the Entry through the online application form at APPLICATION FORM. Alternatively, Applicants may download the application and submit via email to memberservices@wriq.com.au, or by post to WRIQ, Suite 101, 726 Gympie Rd, Chermside QLD 4032.
3.2 Entry to this Challenge is free.
3.3 The Promoter reserves the right to reject an Applicant if it reasonably forms the opinion that an Application has been created and/or submitted using automated entry means or a computer entry service.
3.4 To be eligible for funding through this Challenge, an Application must not:
- (a) infringe the intellectual property or other rights of a third party;
- (b) be incomplete or illegible; or
- (c) be unlawful, defamatory, abusive, insulting, threatening, obscene, inflammatory, offensive or otherwise contain inappropriate or objectionable content.
3.5 The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of an Application and to disqualify an Applicant for tampering with the entry process or for submitting an Application that does not comply with these Terms and Conditions.
3.6 It is the responsibility of the Applicant to ensure Applications are submitted.
4. Judging
4.1 This Challenge is a game of skill, and chance plays no part in determining successful Applications.
4.2 All Applications will be judged individually on their merits against the Judging Criteria, and a shortlist of no less than 15 entries will be provided to the Judging Panel for their final recommendation.
4.3 The Applicants who submit the best Applications as determined by the Promoter will be the Successful Applicants. The Promoter’s decision is final.
5. Successful Applicants
5.1 The Successful Applicants will be notified following judging and contacted using the details included in the entry.
5.2 If an individual Applicant is under 18 years of age, any grant funding will be awarded to the parent or legal guardian.
5.3 If the Successful Applicant does not comply with these Terms and Conditions or does not register their organisation within the required timeframe, the Promoter reserves the right to award any funding to an Applicant with the next best Application.
6. Disputes
6.1 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. In case of a dispute, the courts of Queensland will have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
7. Your Information
7.1 If an Applicant’s contact details change during the Challenge, it is their responsibility to notify the Promoter.
7.2 The Promoter is bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Applicants' personal information will be collected to conduct the Challenge and send marketing materials.
7.3 Applicants’ personal information may be disclosed to third parties who assist in conducting the Challenge.
7.4 Successful Applicants’ names will be published as required by legislation.
7.5 Applicants may request access or corrections to their personal information by emailing memberservices@wriq.com.au.
7.6 Successful Applicants consent to the use of their name, image, and statements for promotional purposes worldwide without compensation.
8. Risk and Liability
8.1 To the fullest extent permitted by law, Successful Applicants participate in this Challenge and use any grant funding at their own risk.
8.2 The Promoter assumes no responsibility for any errors, interruptions, or loss of data.
8.3 If the Challenge cannot run as planned due to unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter may modify, suspend, or cancel it.
8.4 The Promoter excludes liability for loss, damage, or injury arising from participation in this Challenge.
8.5 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of Queensland.
Promoter: The Waste and Recycling Industry of Queensland (WRIQ)
Competition Name: Lithium Ion Battery Challenge
Entrants: National and international organisations from waste recycling industries or any industries with sufficient expertise to develop solutions to address Australia’s current lithium ion battery management and disposal challenges. Individual applicants under 18 years of age require parent or guardian consent.
Excluded Entrants: Directors, employees and contractors to WRIQ, related entities and their immediate family members.
Entry Period: Entries open 15/05/2025 and close at 5pm AEST 30/06/2025. WRIQ reserves the right to extend the closing date at its discretion.
Entry: Entries may be submitted through the on‐line portal at [APPLICATION FORM]. Where Entrants can not complete an online submission, Entrants may download the application and submit to memberservices[at]wriq.com.au
Entry Limits: There is no limit to the number of applications an individual or organisation can submit.
Judges: A panel of judges consisting of industry experts will be appointed at the Promoters discretion.
Judging Criteria: Judges will review a shortlist of applications provided by the Promoter, to make a recommendation of the top ten (10) applications. Any supporting information provided by the Entrants should be assessed based on the judging criteria rather than the quality of any marketing efforts. Judges shall consider the following criteria while evaluating each innovation:
- Industry Need: Is there a market need? Proven customer? Entries with proof of customer backing i.e. invoices / site trials etc. should be more highly regarded.
- Likelihood of commercial success: Proof of revenue or potential, and market need.
- Alignment and relevance to sector: Does the innovation have the potential for multiple customers rather than just one customer?
- Impact and value for money: Innovations are expected to deliver sector wide impact (i.e. benefits to the wider sector beyond the competition applicant).
Judging Process: Judges will recommend five winners to the Promoter. Winners will be selected based on the domain expertise of the judges, with consideration of the market fit, industry need, level of innovation and potential impact of the solution. A Head Judge will be nominated by the Judges to meet and finalise their recommendations on the top ten (10) Applicants. Individual judging notes or scores will not be required for submission, the Judges will make a final recommendation as a collective.
Award Date: Successful applications will be announced by no later than 30/04/2025, subject to any notification of extension of time to submit entries.
